For several months now, competitive eating contestants have been fighting their way to the finals in an attempt to make it all the way to Coney Island for the 2010 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. This annual event has been taking place ever since the early 1900’s when 4 immigrants used a hot dog eating contest to settle a bet.
The National Hot Dog Eating Contest has taken place almost every year since. Each year grabs the attention of new contestants and new spectators. The Nathan’s National Hot Dog Eating Contest has turned into the most popular competitive eating contest and even sports networks such as ESPN have picked up on the excitement.
Semi finals have been taking place for some time now at locations around the United States. Contestants have been preparing for the main event, which takes place in Coney Island in just a few short weeks. Some of the most competitive eaters with some of the biggest appetites will sit down for one of the quickest dinner services some have ever seen. Last year’s champion Joey Chestnut consumed 68 hot dogs and buns in less than ten minutes. Six time champion Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi was right on Chestnut’s tail but was unable to catch up and finished second with a total of 64 1/2 hot dogs and buns.
With the big event right around the corner, online sportsbooks are preparing online bettors for the action that is set to take place at the 2010 Nathan’s National Hot Dog Eating Contest. Entertainment betting lines list Chestnut as a fan favorite this year, but there is not telling who will come with the bigger appetite this year.
