Farrell to Manage Blue Jays?

| by Off The Record

For some teams, right now is all about trying to win the next game. It’s about either staying alive, or taking the next step on to the World Series.

For others, this time of year is about filling managerial positions and getting ready for next year. It’s about trying to find someone who can help them still be in the World Series chase at this point.

For the Toronto Blue Jays, it’s the latter. There is a reason Roy Halladay wanted to come to Philly so badly. And according to Peter Gammons, the Jays might be closer to finding their new skipper.

“Three GMs today insisted John Farrell will get the Toronto job. The final list was the product of exhaustive, thoughtful due diligence,” Gammons tweets.

Farrell is the pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox. The team also interviewed Red Sox bench coach DeMarlo Hale, Indians first base coach Sandy Alomar Jr., Yankees third base coach Rob Thomson and Rays bench coach Dave Martinez.

We don’t know for sure that AL East experience had anything to do with him getting the job, but it probably doesn’t hurt.
