Expert Says Swine Flu Scare Just a Money-Making Scam

Calling it "one of the greatest medical scandals of the century," the head of health for the Council of Europe is calling for an investigation of the World Health Organization's declaration that swine flu was a pandemic.

Wolfgang Wodarg said making H1N1 an official "pandemic" was a goldmine for drug companies. "The great campaign of panic we have seen provided a golden opportunity for representatives from labs who knew they would hit the jackpot in the case of a pandemic being declared," Wodarg told the UK tabloid The Sun.

"A group of people in the WHO is associated very closely with the pharmaceutical industry," Wodarg claims.

Wodarg is calling for an investigation into the WHO declaration. "We want to clarify everything that brought about this massive operation of disinformation. We want to know who made decisions, on the basis of what evidence, and precisely how the influence of the pharmaceutical industry came to bear on the decision-making."

For it's part, WHO stands by its declaration, and says the pandemic is not over. This, despite the fact that just one state in the U.S. -- Alabama -- is still reporting widespread swine flu activity.

Wodarg is not the first expert to claim a great scam has been pulled on the world. Here at OpposingViews.com, one of our experts, Michael Fumento of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, has been writing since last spring, saying the swine flu "pandemic" will be nothing more than the ordinary flu. Just yesterday he wrote:

My first published article on the subject, with the telling title “The Price of a Porcine Panic,” appeared June 1. I said it would ridiculous for the WHO to declare a pandemic, and as soon as it did I wrote why it had been ridiculous. It was obviously milder than seasonal flu, when heretofore flu pandemics were defined by extreme severity.

Later on, as the data, came in, I documented how vastly milder swine flu was. This was before the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology made its incredible prediction of 30,000 to 90,000 deaths.

No, the public health establishment bungled at best and lied at worst. I’ve written 14 articles at countless blogs about it. Don’t let them off the hook this time.

From the moment Swine Flu became a hot topic on the news stations it was blatantly obvious that they were trying as hard as they could to scare people. Just look at how they delivered the reports on various cases. They were practically itching to get a hold of the first confirmed US case. I think it ended up being a toddler that came across the border and was taken to a Texas hospital.

Almost every report of a fatality was presented as if Swine Flu had killed yet another person, on its own. Then at the end of the story they would add almost quietly, and definitely downplayed, that there were other circumstances and illnesses involved with that particular fatality. They couldn't come out and say that at the beginning cause it deflated their sails and caused the story to lose momentum. Just about any flu can kill you if you are currently suffering from other health issues.

Around here the local news stations try to claim that one in four Americans have gotten Swine Flu. Where? Where are these infected people? I don't know a single person who has gotten Swine Flu. I can go up to anyone at my college and ask them if they know one of these 1-in-4 people and they just shrug and shake their heads. How can it be that many people have it or have had it and no one seems to know any of them?

It's grade A BS. It's exactly the type of thing Bowling For Columbine was talking about with the media keeping America in a state of fear. You don't even have to be a Moore fan to see it happening with your own eyes.

probably would disagree that it is/was a scam. The people in this country continually ignore warnings about their health . Smoking is a prime example. If all the money that was spent had saved one child , it would have been worth it.

It is odd to me that this is a matter of concern when the millions of dollars that was spent to find out that there is water on the moon was wonderful news!

I've been saying this since the first day I Heard about the so called swine flu . The funniest thing was that the H1 & N1 viruses were being tested by one of our drug companies months before the whole thing broke out. They were trying to fuse the two together and what a better place to release this then in Mexico. If I had the money i Would have bought tons of stock in the vaccine/drug companies and for those face masks. At Least someone else is acknowledging this. And yes WHO is a bunch of crock don't listen to them. Take vitamins, eat healthy and live happy don't fill your body with drugs that have a plethora of side affects. Just for a 20% greater efficiency than a sugar pill.

I knew it was an overblown scam right from the beginning. I am old enough to have been through too many of these over blown epidemics in my 64 years to take them seriously. Remember the bird flu? The governments of the world love to scare people so they can have the power of manipulation. The authors blame profit motive of the drug companies but they only took advantage of a situation that was created by the world governments cooperating with the WHO. The Global warming scare is another example. I can't take it seriously since I've been lied to too many times in the past. Everything you hear are worst possible case scenarios which, from my experience, never come to pass. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

With major diseases like this WHO is in a no-win situation. If they warn people of an eminent threat and take the proper steps to prevent an epidemic then people will complain that they panicked over nothing. If they do nothing and let the disease run its course then people will complain that they should have warned us.

There is no glory in preventing problems.

The WHO hasn't proclaimed pandemics annually, so why is there such outlandish criticism of a conspiracy. Most likely, they had to make a decision based on the % likelihood that there would be a pandemic. I can understand asking for a review of how the decision was made to learn from and improve upon the decision-making process. However, as we have seen it takes so long to adequately prepare for a potential pandemic, that it is easy to see why the WHO would err on the side of caution with such an initially virulent strain.

When one exaggerates the problem by emphasizing worse case scenarios it is difficult to take them seriously.

Maybe yes. Maybe no. I think it may depend on whether you get H1N1 flu or not. If you do, you will live or die. If you live, you probably won't care. If you die, you definitely won't care. If you don't get it, was it because of the vaccine or luck? There's no way to tell. That is unless you didn't get vaccinated. Then it would be luck.

Getting reliable information is nearly impossible because it is provided by those with a vested interest. One thing you can be sure of is the vested interest will make money .
