What are People Saying About: Mark Wahlberg Stopping the 9/11 Terrorists?

| by

As Opposing Views reported, Mark Wahlberg -- who was scheduled to be on one of the two planes that took off from Boston and crashed into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 -- believes he would have stopped the hijackers from carrying out their suicide mission.

Wahlberg changed his flight plans at the last minute.

"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did," Wahlberg said. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'"

[Ed's Note: Wahlberg has now apologized for making the statement. He told TMZ, "To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible... "To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with..."I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention."

But what are people saying about Wahlberg's statement? Here are some comments taken from OV's Facebook wall:

Brian Miller of Woodland Hills, California: Egregious Hollywood egotism is awful. However, we can now play a new "Chuck Norris-esque" game called "If Mark Wahlberg Was There..." I'll start: If Mark Wahlberg was there, he'd have stomped out the Great Chicago Fire with his own feet, then beaten Mrs. O'leary's cow to death, sliced it and grilled steaks on the ashes.

Ajay J. from Los Angeles: Prior to 9/11, a plane hijacking meant a potentially long layover in a South American country. Terrorists had never used a hijacked plane as a 'missle' to attack our country and had therefore never given passengers a reason to 'fight back'. It's easy to say how you might have acted after the fact...but it really dishonors the families who lost loved ones that day.

Peter McGee from Las Vegas: Mark Wahlberg needs to remember he's a ACTOR and not a SUPERHERO.His comment is insensitive and makes it seem like are American Citizens were week. You can't justify what went down in those planes cause you weren't put in that situation.

Andi Niess: it seems arrogant on the face of it... but what/how was the question asked of him in the interview? - I mean, I wouldn't rather hear him say "I would have let the 9/11 terrorists proceed as they wished". And then we'd be upset with him for that answer, too...

Mary McClain: NO HE WOULDN'T HAVE....what a fool, I USED TO like him....until that stupid comment!

Randy Sage from Springfield, Mo.: What true American WOULDNT have, if they had known the final outcome, I mean...the alternative is not only YOUR death, but thousands of others too... just sayin.

Letha Brooks from Nebraska: Where do these celebs get off thinking they're smarter and more tough than the average citizen?

James Blank: This makes me want to puke in my soup.
