Here’s our first real look at Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln in Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in a new international poster. I saw a standee in the lobby of my local theater yesterday, but it’s essentially the first poster in 3D and Abe’s head is down. (Bit of trivia: Did you know Ben is Meryl Streep’s son-in-law?)
Not to be confused with that other Lincoln movie, the one with Daniel Day-Lewis, directed by Steven Spielberg, this one is based on the genre mashing novel by Seth Grahame-Smith.
He’s adapted his own work for the film (as well as penning Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows). Walker as well as the director and producers share their enthusiasm for the project in the behind-the-scenes clip below. (It’s interesting that the star and the producers both use almost the exact same wording to describe Bekmambetov.)
Co-starring Anthony Mackie, who describes the film as a sort of “48 Hours”, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter tells the story of the 16th President, whose mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which then fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. Hey, if cowboys and Indians can get together to ward off an alien invasion, why the hell not?
The rest of the cast includes Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln. It opens in the US and Canada on June 22 and 2nd August in the UK.
