Robert Zemeckis’ Flight opens in about a week and a half. Early reviews have been positive for the most part but it depends on who you read as to whether it’s an award contender or just a good movie that won’t waste your time and money. Considering how scarce the latter can be, I’ll take it.
In it, Denzel Washington plays an airline pilot who makes a miraculous emergency landing. But while we see the resulting spotlight and hero-worship, Flight also shows the dark side of fame and what comes after. Indeed this film was inspired not by the “Miracle on the Hudson” but rather an incident from 2001 when Canadian Captain Robert Piche safely landed a fuel-less plane, saving all 306 passengers onboard. After becoming an overnight hero, a journalist exposed his long forgotten criminal past (he had served 16 mos. in jail for flying a plane-load of marijuana out of Jamaica in 1983), then he and his copilot were assigned partial responsibility for the 2001 incident.
Don Cheadle plays Washington’s attorney. Even if Washington weren’t playing the pilot, Don Cheadle is always worth the price of admission.
Today we have a 3 new clips from the film as well as sound bites from Washington, Cheadle and Bruce Greenwood:
In this action-packed mystery thriller, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a seasoned airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands his plane after a mid-air catastrophe, saving nearly every soul on board. After the crash, Whip is hailed as a hero, but as more is learned, more questions than answers arise as to who or what was really at fault, and what really happened on that plane?
Written by John Gatins (Real Steel), Flight also stars John Goodman, Brian Geraghty, James Badge Dale, Melissa Leo, Kelly Reilly, Garcelle Beauvais, Tamara Tunie and Nadine Velasquez.
Flight will be released in the US on November 2 and in the UK on 1st February. We also have some new images to share. See everything we have here.
