Video: New Movie Trailer for 'Lone Ranger' Starring Johnny Depp

| by I Need My Fix

More than likely in a move calculated to take the focus off of the tragic news that a crew member died on the set of Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger last week,  Disney has released some new official stills of stars Armie Hammer, who plays the titular hero and Johnny Depp who plays the masked man’s Native American sidekick, Tonto. Here is a video of Depp performing a stunt sequence.

The death of welder and water-safety expert Mike Bridger was just the latest bad news that came from the Arizona set and a production plagued by delays caused by several natural disasters like wind and dust storms and not-so- natural disasters like director Verbinski ‘s insistance on creating his own period train cars rather than ”employ existing railroad vehicles”, creating cost overruns in a production that was over-budget before it started shooting.  The film is now in post-production for a Summer 2013 release.

"Left for dead in an ambush with five other Texax Rangers, lawman John Reid survives and is nursed back to health by an Indian scout named Tonto. He then dons a mask to avenge the murders of his comrades and to foil evil doers, never accepting payment for his services. His gratis vigilantism is made possible by the silver mine he inherits from one of his slain brothers – the same mine that affords him an endless supply of his trademark silver bullets.”

The Lone Ranger, directed by Gore Verbinski and featuring Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as John Reid, the Lone Ranger, is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Hammer beat out the likes of Ryan Gosling for the role.  Luther’s Ruth Wilson won the female lead over Jessica Chastain, Abbie Cornish, Andrea Riseborough and Sarah Gadon for the role of Rebecca Reid. (John’s wife/widow?)

The rest of the terrific cast includes Tom Wilkinson, James Frain, James Badge Dale, Barry Pepper, William Fichtner and Helena Bonham Carter. The Lone Ranger is set to open July 3, 2013 everywhere. Stay tuned, more will surely follow.
