Video: Movie Trailer for Steven Spielberg’s 'Lincoln'

| by I Need My Fix

Okay, I’ve mention the fact that I’m not really enamored of the whole ‘trailers for trailers’ gimmick that’s all the rage for movie marketing braintrusts.

Despite my reluctance to play into this game and give them what they want, I feel have to post this one. It’s for the trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. Why? You might well ask, am I breaking my own rule?

1. Because we’ve had virtually NOTHING other than that awesome image of Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln (and a couple of surreptitiously gathered set pics) on this movie to date.

2. To advertise that fact that the real trailer is not only coming on Friday, but on Thursday night, September 13, there will be a special “Google Hangout” presentation with Spielberg and co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Despite what you may or may not think about Google +, that’s pretty cool.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

There’s not a lot to the teaser, which is to be expected. We hear some of the Gettysburg Address, but not delivered by Day-Lewis as Lincoln. What we do glimpse is a battle scene which looks fitting from the director of Saving Private Ryan.

The amazing cast, led by Daniel Day Lewis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt includes Jared Harris, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, Jackie Earle Haley, John Hawkes, Lee Pace, Walton Goggins, David Oyelowo, James Spader and Sally Field, as Mary Todd Lincoln. The screenplay is by John Logan (The Hurt Locker, Hugo, Coriolanus) and Tony Kushner (“Angels in America”) and is based on a book by Doris Kearns Goodwin (“Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln”).

The real trailer premieres on September 14, while Lincoln is set for theaters in the US on November 9 in limited release before going wider on November 16. The UK won’t see it until 25th January, 2013. You can follow the film’s Youtube Channel and see all our coverage here.
