Video: Movie Trailer for 'Star Trek Into Darkess'

| by I Need My Fix

First, you have simply GOT to see this, the first teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkess and the return of the Starship Enterprise. Even if you have not seen the original (yeah right) or th iconic 1960’s television series or any of the previous big screen incarnations, this thing is MESMERIZING!

Okay so watch the domestic version with its glimpses of Pine, Quinto, Cumberbatch, Pegg, Eve and Saldana:

Is it my imagination or did they use the Prometheus soundtrack under this trailer?

Now get a load of the Japanese version:

This one, according to “experts” features overt references to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the most popular and arguably the best, of the original movies. It in turn was a sequel to one of the most popular episodes of the series, in which Ricardo Montalban played Khan (full name Khan Noonien Singh. According to his Wiki: “the most prominent of the genetically-engineered Human augments of the late-20th century Eugenics Wars"). Why do I tell you all of this? Because for some time it’s been rumored that Benedict Cumberbatch, who’s known to be in the movie and its villain, is playing some version of Khan in Into Darkness.

This Japanese trailer ends with what can logically be construed as a reference to the end of The Wrath of Khan *spoiler alert if you haven’t yet seen this 30 year old movie* where a “dying” Spock says his goodbye to his friend James T. Kirk

I do hope all of this is true. JJ Abrams is infamously not a Star Trek purist, but I really want to see and hear Chris Pine yell: "Khaaannnn!”.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens in the US and the UK on May 17, 2013 in IMAX 3D and 2D. There wlll be new theatrical trailers in front of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – different versions depending on which format you see The Hobbit.
