There are many reasons that I was interested in Inside Llewyn Davis from the first time I heard about it. First and foremost it’s made by the Coen brothers, whom I have almost universally adored since I saw Blood Simple more years ago than I care to think about. Second, I am an Oscar Isaac fan.
He’s had small supporting roles in films like Sir Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, Drive and The Bourne Legacy, but this is his first lead role and I can’t wait. We’ve shown you pics from the set, but that was way back in February of 2012. Now, nearly a year later we have the first trailer, and it is fantastic. If I weren’t in already, I’d have been had at Isaac’s first appearance, but it is Carey Mulligan as Jean that is most impressive.
Inside Llewyn Davis doesn’t have a release date yet (despite imdb listing Feb. 8 – that’s an industry screening), but there’s a rumor of a Cannes debut – in which case it’ll probably be snatched up at the film market there.
Isaac and Mulligan are joined by an amazing supporting cast that includes Coen regular John Goodman as well as F. Murray Abraham, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, and Adam Driver.

The Coen Brothers, Joel and Ethan, of course directed from their own script, loosely based on a memoir by folkie Dave Van Ronk, “The Mayor of MacDougal Street”. The film centers on Isaac’s eponymous character trying to make it as a musician in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene. More as we get it.
