Video: Movie Trailer for 'Beautiful Creatures' Starring Emma Thompson

| by I Need My Fix

I keep hearing about a movie called, Beautiful Creatures, but I keep getting it confused with other movies, like Heavenly Creatures starring Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey or Fierce Creatures, with John Cleese and Jamie Lee Curtis (the sequel to A Fish Called Wanda) or the 2001 film, Beautiful Creatures with Rachel Weisz.

This movie is a “romantic supernatural drama” and it certainly has a supernatural cast, including Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis and Emmy Rossum along with newcomers Alice Englert (Ginger and Rosa) and Alden Ehrenreich.  We have your first look at 2013’s Beautiful Creatures including the poster above and the trailer below.

This is the official synopsis:

‘Beautiful Creatures,’ which is based on the first novel in the New York Times best-selling series of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, is an intense coming-of-age love story set in the small Southern town of Gatlin. The film follows local boy Ethan Wate, played by Ehrenreich, and a mysterious new girl, Lena Duchannes, portrayed by Deutch, who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town. Ethan has been looking forward to the day when he can leave Gatlin. However, he’s haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he’s never met. Lena then moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous platation, and Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her. He sets out to uncover the connection between them.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Lena is struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has plagued her family for generations. But her secret isn’t destined to remain hidden forever in Gatlin.

Written and directed by Richard LaGravenese (PS I Love You, Freedom Writers – which makes me wonder why Hilary Swank is not involved), Beautiful Creatures will screen at New York Comic Con next month.  It opens in the US on February 13. (I’m thinking 2013 is going to be a big year for supernatural/horror/fantasy films.)
