Magnolia Pictures is set to release Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York, a sequel to 2007’s 2 Days In Paris. Delpy also stars along with Chris Rock. Basically, it’s the same but different. The setting is Manhattan instead of Paris and Rock replaces Adam Goldberg as Delpy’s love interest. Other than that it appears that we get the same cheerful, almost whimsical approach to modern love and familial problems.
Marion and Mingus live cozily–perhaps too cozily–with their cat and two young children from previous relationships. However, when Marion's jolly father (played by director Delpy's real-life dad), her oversexed sister, and her sister's outrageous boyfriend unceremoniously descend upon them for a visit, it initiates two unforgettable days that will test Marion and Mingus's relationship. With their unwitting racism and sexual frankness, the French triumvirate hilariously has no boundaries or filters… and no person is left unscathed in its wake.
This is a very toned down Chris Rock from even his persona as an animated zebra in the Madagascar films. It’s definitely not the Chris Rock you’ll see in his stage shows. This is Rock as an actor in a role where he gets to be (I presume) as close to a version of his real self as we’re going to see.
2 Days in New York will be released first on VOD (iTunes exclusively) on July 6, before heading to ( a limited number of) theaters on August 10.
