Video: Bill O'Reilly Defends Ellen DeGeneres
In a surprise move, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly took on conservative Sandy Rios of Family-Pac Federal over the controversy that has swirled around the activist group 'One Million Moms' and their effort to get Ellen DeGeneres fired as a JC Penney spokeswoman because she is a lesbian (video below).
While Rios argued that DeGeneres represented immorality and should lose her job, O'Reilly disagreed: “I don’t think that’s the spirit of America. What is the difference between a McCarthy-era blacklist and Million Moms? It’s a witch hunt and it shouldn’t happen."

It's so ironic that those on the religious right call about political correctness of the left, though they try to get people fired constantly. Remember how they got Bill Mahrer fired?

If JCP fires Ellen, my family will never shop there again.
I never thought I'd see the day Bill O and I came down on the same side of a contentious argument, but it has finally happened.
I find the demands of the "million moms" to be completely outrageous and intrusive. Ms. DeGeneres hasn't in the public view ever done anything illegal, immoral, or unethical, and she's not known for parading herself around in overly-revealing clothing. She has, to the best of my knowledge, always comported herself in a friendly and (for an entertainer) entirely businesslike manner.
What she's done to run afoul of these foul "million moms" is to stay true to herself in her private life and to have a public opinion on something she is far more qualified to have an opinion on than anyone in the "million moms" organization.
If Ellen is forced out of her job as a JC Penney spokeperson because of immorality, then all gay politicians, lawyers and all people in the public domain, should also loose their jobs for the same reason. Enough is enough.
If every politician lost his job because of immorality, there wouldn't be any left...oh, wait a second, now I'm all for this!
The problem with the "let's throw the bums out" response is that the second stringers who couldn't get elected the first time are no better, and some are worse.
What we need is a way to get the money out of politics - then we could truly evaluate politicians on what they have done and could do rather than who raised the most money and ran the best campaign.
The SCOTUS ruling that enabled the super PACs has ruined national politics probably forever until we amend the constitution.
Money is what has ruined politics.
If that were the case, then wouldn't Romney have had a lot more success buying votes instead of getting trounced by Santorum yesterday? I'd like to think that the American people aren't yet QUITE stupid enough just to vote for the deepest pockets...but perhaps that's overly optimistic on my part.
It is not just voting for people with the deepest politics, or we would have had President Perot instead of President Clinton.
The point is that money allows people to skew the message. The Super PACs allowed Gingrich to take SC, and Romney FL. It is not the only factor, but the influence is too great.
There are many brilliant thoughtful people who have been kept out of politics because of money. If we could eliminate the money problem, we might break the two party duopoly as well, meaning we might actually see a centrist elected and some real progress rather than two party gridlock.
If it weren't for money, Romney wouldn't have been able to survive this long. He might still take it, but it is too early to say.
Money only skews the message for those too dumb to research the facts. Of course, given the general level of intelligence of the voting populace...
