Video: Behind the Scenes of 'Beautiful Creatures' Starring Emmy Rossum

| by I Need My Fix

Warner Bros. brought Beautiful Creatures, a fantasy-drama that has the potential to be the first in a franchise, to New York Comic Con this past weekend. The first trailer and a teaser poster debuted a few weeks ago, so the Brothers Warner brought a new featurette, which gives us a look behind the scenes of “the casters”. We have a shot of Emmy Rossum in character as well as on the panel in New York.

Beautiful Creatures,’ which is based on the first novel in the New York Times best-selling series of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, is an intense coming-of-age love story set in the small Southern town of Gatlin. The film follows local boy Ethan Wate, played by Ehrenreich, and a mysterious new girl, Lena Duchannes, portrayed by Deutch, who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town. Ethan has been looking forward to the day when he can leave Gatlin. However, he’s haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he’s never met. Lena then moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous platation, and Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her. He sets out to uncover the connection between them.

Lena is struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has plagued her family for generations. But her secret isn’t destined to remain hidden forever in Gatlin.

The leads are played by Alice Englert (Ginger & Rosa) and Alden Ehrenreich (Stoker) but the supporting cast is what gives me pause here: Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons and Viola Davis. And I swear that’s Eileen Adkins with Jeremy Irons in this clip but I can find no trace of a credit for her. What does that mean?

Oscar-nominated writer-director Richard LaGravenese (Living Out Loud, PS I Love You) adapted the first in the best-selling series of novels by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Beautiful Creatures will be released in the US and in the UK on February 13, 2013, (2/13/2013 and it’s a Friday? *cue scary music*). In the meantime, enjoy the clip. I'm sure we'll have lots more soon.
