The newly-crowned Miss America, Nina Davuluri, appeared on Fox & Friends today to address the racism that has been directed at her since Sunday night.

Hundreds of Twitter uses have attacked Davuluri for being Muslim, when she is actually from India.

Additionally, Fox News reporter Todd Starnes took shots at Davuluri and the pageant on Twitter, noted the Village Voice:

Miss Politically Correct America #missamerica

The liberal Miss America judges won't say this - but Miss Kansas lost because she actually represented American values. #missamerica

Miss Kansas, a gun-toting, deer-hunting, military veteran was America's choice - but not the liberal Miss America judges' choice.

Oddly, the Fox & Friends hosts didn't mention their colleague pouring gas on the fire during their interview with Davuluri (video below).

“You, actually, were at the center of a Twitter tirade by some... They were aimed at your heritage, correct?" asked co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, noted Mediaite.com.

“And your religion, and your race, and everything,” added co-host Steve Doocy.

“And a lot of that stemmed from ignorance. And that’s why my platform is so timely right now.” I'm promoting the cause and celebrating diversity through cultural competency,” stated Davuluri.

Later she added, “I have always viewed Miss America as the girl next door, but, for me, the girl next door is evolving as the diversity in America evolves. It's not who she was ten years ago."
