Tom Jones Cancels Concert: Heart Attack or Dehydration?

71-year-old singer Tom Jones was scheduled to perform at a $200-a-head concert in Monte Carlo, but pulled out at the last minute due to illness. Jones dismissed rumors of a heart scare and said that he was suffering from "severe dehydration."

The heart attack rumors began when theatrical producer David King tweeted: "Tonight's concert at the Sporting Club, Monte Carlo, cancelled as Tom Jones admitted to hospital with a heart scare."

However, Jones' spokesman has since made a statement saying: "Sir Tom was ordered by doctors not to perform in Monte Carlo yesterday evening, due to severe dehydration. This was extremely disappointing for Tom, the band and all connected with the tour."

"This was the last date of a very successful three month tour where many of the shows were in locations that were in the throes of high summer heat. Sir Tom wants to relay his deep regrets for causing disappointment and inconvenience to all who would have come to enjoy his show last night."

The Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco confirmed that Jones was admitted, but told the Daily Telegraph that his condition had stabilized and that he was "not in danger." Jones said on his web site that doctors had ordered him to cancel the show, which was to have been the end of his three-month “Praise & Blame” tour.
