Ted Beats Magic Mike, Brave and Madea Witness Protection in Weekend Box Office Battle

| by Alex Groberman

Chalk this weekend up as a win for foul-mouthed teddy bears and male strippers everywhere.

Thanks to a somewhat shocking $54.1 million final tally, the Seth MacFarlane-directed Ted took down Magic Mike, Brave and Tyler Perry’s Madea Witness Protection in this weekend's much-hyped box office battle. The other three films hauled in $39.2 million, $34 million and $26.4 million, respectively.

Ted, a film about a rambunctious talking stuffed teddy bear starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, was projected to only take in about $23 million this weekend. However, thanks to good word of mouth, the movie was able to bring in the best showing ever for an original R-rated comedy.

Does this mean a Family Guy movie is on the horizon? Time will tell.

Here is this weekend’s entire top 10, via The Hollywood Reporter:

1. Ted $54.1 million

2. Magic Mike $39.2 million

3. Brave $34 million

4. Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection $26.4 million

5. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted $11.8 million

6. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter $6 million

7. Prometheus $4.9 million

8. Moonrise Kingdom $4.8 million
