SNL Parodies Fake Mandela Interpreter, Obama Selfie (Video)

| by Emily Smith

Last week, Saturday Night Life poked fun at President Obama’s selfie with Danish prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt and the sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s memorial.

“I felt like Lemony Snicket,” Jay Pharoah as Obama said, ”because I experienced a series of unfortunate events.”

The president complained that he had been roped into taking a selfie with the Danish prime minister and UK prime minister David Cameron, and that his wife had been furious about it.

Second, he excused his highly publicized handshake with Cuban leader Raul Castro by saying he thought Castro was Battlestar Galactica star Edward James Olmos.

During his speech, Kenan Thompson took the stage as the interpreter from Mandela’s memorial who was accused of being a fake. After a series of obviously inaccurate interpretations, like dance moves from “Thriller”, he was taken off stage by the Secret Service.

A fake German Chancellor Angela Merkel also appeared, asking Obama for a selfie.

“I feel like you kind of owe me after the whole wiretapping my cellphone thing,” she said.
