Dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Such is the rarity of Cate Blanchett’s red carpet appearances, we tend to swing between taking anything we can get, and being disappointed by too-high expectations. In the words of the Fug Girls, Cate got her scroll-down fug on at Elle’s Women in Hollywood Celebration yesterday in Beverly Hills.
Head: Perfection (comme d’hab).
Dress: Beyond amazing Proenza Schouler Spring 2013 textured print dress with futuristic neckline and shoulders.
Accessories: Killer amber and green vintage costume earrings and bracelet, with a black and gold accented box clutch.
Shoes: Slightly klunky conservative suede bow pumps that an older lady wears to look young and a younger gal wears to look older – neither of which applies to Blanchett.
The killer is that these Roger Vivier shoes are gorgeous but manage to make her ankles look thick.
The problem is the pairing of a rounded platform with an A-line skirt. I see that she was trying to de-edge the dress with classic accessories but ended up going overboard with the heavy ageing shoe. I reckon she needed a pointed toe or a minimal strappy sandal to give her a slimmer line against that big skirt and accentuated shoulder. As she stands, my eye can’t leave the shoes.
These shoes are better suited to a pencil silhouette, in my Cate Blanchett loving opinion.
Still it’s great to have her back.
