Actress Naomi Watts Cast as Princess Diana

Australian actress Naomi Watts has been cast to play Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic “Caught in Flight”, which will follow her relationship with Hasnat Khan, the man she described as Mr. Wonderful.

Actress Jessica Chastain was named to play the role last year, but pulled out of the project.

Director Oliver Hirschbiegel asked Naomi to join the project and she has agreed.

Watts, 43, said in a statement, “It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role – Princess Diana was loved across the world and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen”.

The filming of the film will reportedly begin in Britain and Australia later this year.

Director Hirschbiegel said the movie’s plot-line will be “a love story between a princess locked in a tower and an ordinary man”.

Princess Di was dating Dodi Fayed at the time of the death in Paris in 1997, but close friends insist Dr. Khan was the true love of her life.
