The New Yorker commemorated the Supreme Court's historic rulings about gay marriage by featuring one of the most famous suspected gay couples in the world on its cover  Bert and Ernie of "Sesame Street."

The cover of the magazine, titled "Bert and Ernie's Moment Of Joy," shows the two characters snuggling on a couch as they watch television coverage of the landmark Supreme Court rulings.

The cover artist, Jack Hunter, originally submitted the picture to a Tumblr.

"It's amazing to witness how attitudes on gay rights have evolved in my lifetime," he said. "This is great for our kids, a moment we can all celebrate."

"Sesame Street" has always maintained that Bert and Ernie are just friends, going so far as to release a statement in 2011 saying that the two "do not have a sexual orientation," The Huffington Post reported.
