The New Yorker commemorated the Supreme Court's historic rulings about gay marriage by featuring one of the most famous suspected gay couples in the world on its cover — Bert and Ernie of "Sesame Street."
The cover of the magazine, titled "Bert and Ernie's Moment Of Joy," shows the two characters snuggling on a couch as they watch television coverage of the landmark Supreme Court rulings.
The cover artist, Jack Hunter, originally submitted the picture to a Tumblr.
"It's amazing to witness how attitudes on gay rights have evolved in my lifetime," he said. "This is great for our kids, a moment we can all celebrate."
"Sesame Street" has always maintained that Bert and Ernie are just friends, going so far as to release a statement in 2011 saying that the two "do not have a sexual orientation," The Huffington Post reported.
