Police are examining new information that has been brought to light about the most investigated car crash in history – the Aug. 31, 1997 car crash that killed Princess Diana.
The new allegations suggest that the crash that killed the royal might not have been an accident, reports CBS News. Conspiracy theories about the death of Princess Diana are nothing new. The crash was investigated at least three times British and French authorizes extensively before the final verdict was given that Diana died because her driver was drunk when he tried to speed away from photographers. Diana was not wearing her seatbelt.
A letter from a British soldier’s family claiming that the British Army commando unit was involved in the death is what sparked Scotland Yard to look at the case again, reports CBS News. The letter came from the family an ex-wife of a soldier who says he made the claim that the royals death was planned.
CBS News' Mark Phillips reported on "CBS This Morning" that police at Scotland Yard are not reopening the case, but the allegation is still being taken “seriously.”

"The Metropolitan Police Service is scoping information that has recently been received in relation to the deaths and assessing its relevance and credibility," said a statement issued by Scotland Yard.
However, some feel conspiracy theories involving Diana’s death should be put to rest once and for all.
"This should be kicked into the long grass like every other conspiratorial allegations,” said Dai Davies, former head of royal protection with the Metropolitan Police Service. “And I'm really saddened that yet again, two princes have to face yet another nonsensical allegation, and I'll bet anything I have that this is sheer nonsense."
CBS news reports from Prince William or Prince Harry have not commented on the letter, and Phillips reported some people are suggesting that Scotland Yard’s comments about these allegations has given them more legitimacy than they deserve.
