Natalie Portman is rumored to be in talks to star as America's favourite first lady, Jackie Kennedy in a new film looking at how Jackie dealt with the assassination of her husband, JFK.
The film, titled Jackie, has been knocking around Hollywood for a while, with Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky involved at one point, before dropping out. Rachel Weisz was also involved, telling MTV in 2010.
"It’s a very beautiful script.
"I think it’s the four or five days after the assassination and how [Jackie] deals with the assassination and the funeral. It’s not a biopic. Its about that short period of time."

After Michelle Williams delivered an amazing performance as Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn, losing out on the Oscar to Meryl Streep's performance as Margaret Thatcher, could it be that Portman is looking to play a part that fuses iconic beauty and politics, in the hopes of snagging another Oscar? If so, Jackie Kennedy could be a dead cert.
There's the added fact that, at far as actors go, Natalie is pretty active, politically. Surely that can only add more depth to a performance as one of American politics' most prominent women.
We'd have to worry, though, about the project being abandoned by a director as heavyweight as Aronofsky. The writer, Noah Oppenheim, is a newcomer in the world of film, with a few TV producing credits to his name, and we can't help but think that the lack of big names (or, in fact, any names apart from Portman) attached to this project could see it continue to float, unmade, for another few years.
Or, we could be hugely wrong. Just watch, now we've speculated, it'll end up coming out next week or something. Sod's law.

We'd like to see this film, to be honest. Natalie Portman's talent is not up for debate, and it's a fact that her ability to play vulnerability with a hard edge would come in handy for this role.
Plus, Katie Holmes was the last person to play Jackie, in big budget disappointment The Kennedys. Hardly a tough act to follow...
