"Gasland" was an Oscar-nominated 2010 documentary written and directed by Josh Fox.

The film focused on communities in the United States impacted by natural gas drilling into shale formations, also known as "fracking."

"When we put the first movie out we were astounded," Fox told Mother Jones. "We… never figured that 'fracking' would become a household word."

Fox has recently completed a sequel "Gasland II," which airs on HBO this month and shows the sheer political power of energy companies (video below).

Gasland Part II begins in the spring of 2010 with Fox touring the Gulf of Mexico via helicopter.

As he flies above the oil leaking from BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig, Fox says: "Journalists would call up the FAA to clear flights, and BP would answer the phone."
