Bursting onto the Hollywood scene in the 1990s, Minnie Driver seemed to be one of Hollywood’s “it” girls. But she’s recently revealed, that with her success came self-esteem issues and a struggle with weight loss.

She shot to fame after starring in Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, but in an interview with Stylist magazine, she said:

“I definitely went a bit bonkers in my early 20s, when I got famous quite quickly. Bonkers in a way where I didn’t eat enough, I drank too much coffee, smoked too many cigarettes, cried a lot and was very emotional.”

Now 42 and a single mom to her son 3-year-old Henry, she reveals that it was Kate, her sister who intervened when she realized where Minnie was heading:

“My sister showed up one day and said, ‘I don’t recognize you. You weigh 98 pounds, and you’re behaving like an idiot.’ “

That led to her leaving Los Angeles to return to England to recover and to reevaluate her career. She says:

“Hollywood is portrayed in this super-glamorous way, but when I see pictures of actresses going off the rails, it doesn’t surprise me at all. You have to have solid family and friends.”

Minnie is going to tell her story in an autobiography:

“I want to tell it from the view of someone who was normal but whose life became abnormal.”
