Ministry & Rigor Mortis Guitarist Mike Scaccia Dies on Stage at 47
Mike Scaccia, the guitarist for Ministry, Rigor Mortis, and The Revolting Co*ks has passed away at the age of 47 after suffering a seizure on stage.
Rigor Mortis was performing at the Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday night when Scaccia collapsed.
The heavy metal band was performing as part of Bruce Corbitt’s 50th Birthday Celebration when police responded to a 911 call from the Rail Club at around 11:45 p.m.
Mike Scaccia was performing onstage at the birthday celebration for Rigor Mortis singer Bruce Corbitt, when he collapsed.
Scaccia had reportedly asked for the strobe lights in the club to be turned off just before he collapsed suffering a seizure. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The guitarist formed the heavy metal band Rigor Mortis in 1983 and joined Ministry six years later, when he was invited by Al Jourgensen.
His bandmate Bruce Corbitt posted on Facebook, “My brother is gone! The only reason I am who I am is because of this man. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t even be in a band. Rip, Mike – the greatest guitar player I ever knew. I’m proud to say that I was always Mike Scaccia’s biggest fan, and always will be.”
Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen posted a statement on the band’s Facebook page:
“I just lost my lil’ brother and my best friend – the 13th Planet compound is devastated, completely in shock and shattered,” the note reads, in part. “Mikey was not only the best guitar player in the history of music, but he was a close, close, close part of our family – and I just lost a huge chunk of my heart today. Our lives are forever changed. Life without Mikey is like orange juice without pulp – kind of bland. I have no words to express what this guy meant to me, my family, my career. . . . Everything!
“Rest in peace my brother, my friend, my heart. Please pray for Mike Scaccia and Jenny, his wife and their children. Al”
Scaccia is survived by his wife Jenny Rowen Scaccia, with whom he has two children, daughters Sarah Scaccia and Taarna Scaccia Hopkins.
