Michelle Beadle’s attempt at replicating her ‘Sports Nation’ success on the NBC Sports Network is officially over.
After seven months of awful ratings with no signs of improvement, the execs opted to put all involved out of their misery and cancel ‘The Crossover’ in hopes of dedicating more air time to football and hockey shows. It’s debateable whether or not that strategy will actually pay off, seeing as the network’s pro football show is doing just as horribly ratings-wise, but that’s a risk they’re willing to take.
Even though Beadle’s foray into single-handedly Keith Olbermann-ing a channel didn’t work out, it’s hard to place the blame for this at her doorstep. She’s a star, obviously. It’s just a fact that sports talk shows aren’t drivers of ratings. They’re something people will watch when the TV is turned to that specific channel, not something they’ll actively seek out. Fox Sports 1 and the CBS Sports Network can attest to that.
"With the NHL returning, we decided to focus on our core sports and have created vertical programming blocks in that time period to do that,” NBCSN said in a statement. “We look forward to Michelle Beadle and the production team continuing their work on other NBC Sports Group properties."
