In what may go down as the worst television debut ever, A.J. Clemente became a viral superstar this past weekend when he kicked off his news anchoring career by randomly dropping both the f-bomb and the s-bomb.
Things didn’t go much better for Clemente after the initial slip-up. Following an introduction from his co-anchor, Van Tieu, the West Virginia product began rambling about being from the East Coast and, well, that’s pretty much all he did.
Right after the broadcast concluded, KFYR immediately addressed what transpired in a Facebook posting.
"I want to apologize for an incident that occurred prior to our early newscast this evening, when one of our employees used profanity on air. He did not realize his microphone was on, but still, that's no excuse."
In response to that post and news that Clemente had been suspended for his on-air cursing, a massive internet campaign was mounted to save his job. It remains to be seen if all of the folks who tweeted out #keepAJ will actually impact KFYR’s decision on the matter, but it’s nice that people are at least making the effort.
