Julianne Moore Rumored To Play President Coin In Final 'Hunger Games' Films

While the release of Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is still months away, it has been rumored that Julianne Moore is the frontrunner to play a key role in the Suzanne Collins’ series.

Moore, 52, is said to be director Francis Lawrence’s top choice for playing President Alma Coin in the final installment of the book series, “Mockingjay,” according to Deadline. President Coin first appears in the third and final “Hunger Games” books, and while protagonist Katniss Everdeen has long recognized PanEm’s leader, President Snow, as a threat, she becomes increasingly suspicious of Coin, who is not only a manipulative politician but also the head of District 13 and leader of the rebellion against the Capitol. While Coin wants to use Everdeen as a symbol for the rebellion, the series strong-willed protagonist might have other plans.

Unlike the trilogy book series, “Mockingjay” is being released in two parts. The first film installment will premiere on Nov. 21, 2014, with the second chapter being released a year later on Nov. 20, 2015.

The Hunger Games final films will also feature the return of Jennifer Lawrence as Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne.

Moore is in a good position to play in the increasingly popular series and join the star-studded cast as she is just coming off her Emmy-winning role of Sarah Palin in HBO’s “Game Change.” She also stars opposite Jeff Bridges in Warner Bros’ “Seventh Son” and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson in “Don Jon,” which Gordon-Levitt both directed and wrote.

While playing such as vital character as President Coin might seem daunting, Moore knows what its like to be true to the character she’s portraying. When asked by TVLine about playing Sarah Palin, she said, “It's daunting to play somebody who … a hugely well-known [person or character], and it's my responsibility as an actor to be as accurate as possible.”
