Early Tuesday morning, numerous sources reported that wide receiver prospect Jay Harris had spurned Michigan State and its football program in favor of becoming a rapper. While following one’s dreams is obviously an important part of living a fulfilling and happy life, folks were understandably confused as to why the youngster couldn’t commit to both things.

Later in the day, the answer to that question came via a report from Philly.com.

As it turns out, Harris actually had his scholarship stripped by Michigan State after he posted a number of explicit rap videos to Youtube. Working under the moniker Jay DatBull, the highly-touted recruit apparently touches on drugs, women, gays and numerous other sensitive topics in his music.

Harris’ first single features him smoking weed in the opening scene. It has racked up nearly 67,000 views as of Wednesday morning.
