The Hunger Games News: Date Announced for Advance Ticket Sales, Oscars and More

Tickets for the first installment of the highly anticipated Hunger Games trilogy go on sale February 22, 2012.

In a slight bit of marketing creativity, Lionsgate made the announcement about a movie that covers the 74th Annual Hunger Games exactly 74 days before the film's feature release.

The trilogy, written by Suzanne Colins, was a massive success with its 16 million copies in print and is expected to perform very well at the box office. Gary Ross is set to direct. 

In other news: 

-- Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Elizabeth Banks -- characters Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Effie Trinket -- will participate in Moviefone's patented Unscripted, according to the moviefone blog. "They'll be answering your questions, big and small, about 'The Hunger Games.'" said the announcement.

'Hunger Games' fans will have until Monday at 8 p.m. EST to ask a question. Check back to Moviefone closer to the 'Hunger Games' release date in March to see the completed video.

-- Jennifer Lawrence, who plays protagonist Katniss in The Hunger Games, has received an Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone. According to Entertainment Weekly, "now she’ll be the one announcing a new crop of contenders. The 21-year-old actress will join Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to reveal the nominees live on Jan. 24."
