'The Hunger Games' Earns $155 Million, 3rd Biggest Weekend

| by Michael Allen

'The Hunger Games' is the all-time third best opener after (sequels) 2008’s 'The Dark Knight' ($158.4 million) and  2011’s 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' ($169.2 million).

'The Hunger Games' earned $155 million this weekend, the biggest non-sequel film to ever open, and beating the 'Twilight' movies.

The film, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, was expected to open big, this weekend’s box office still exceeded industry expectations.
