Based on the New York Times best-selling book, ‘The Help’ stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer as three very different women in Mississippi during the 1960s.  Davis and Spencer play two African-American maids, while Stone is a white housewife sympathetic to their struggles. They all become unlikely friends under the strain of turbulent times in race relations. The film opens today in selected cities (video below).

Kathryn Stockett, who wrote the novel and the screenplay, grew up with the director of the film, Tate Taylor, in Jackson, Miss.  The two buddies have been showing each other their work for years and often commiserated when she was struggling to become a novelist (60 agents rejected 'The Help') and he was trying to break in as a director.
