Fifty Shades Of Grey Movie: Matt Bomer to Replace Charlie Hunnam?
E.L. James warned that when the casting announcements for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ were finally made, they would cause a stir. After months of speculation, certain fan favorites had emerged for the parts of both Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. James was aware of this, and knew exactly who these favorites were. The warning that fans might be disappointed wasn’t made accidentally, it was a pre-emptive strike.
Surely enough, when word came down that ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star Charlie Hunnam had landed the role of Christian, there was something of an uproar. Up until about a week before James’ casting announcement, he wasn’t even rumored for the role.
Much as was the case when word came down that Ben Affleck would play Batman, following James’ ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ casting announcement, petitions immediately popped up demanding that Hunnam be recast. Who did fans want in his place?
Unlike Hunnam, Bomer was consistently rumored to be a favorite for the role of Christian, and over time, fans really warmed up to him. Currently the petition to replace Hunnam is nearing the 100K mark – and fans are hoping that this will result in Bomer replacing him.
It won’t, of course. But you have to respect the effort.
