Drake’s highly anticipated album was due to be released on September 24. Fortunately, as is the case with just about every album nowadays, it leaked a week early and was instantly absorbed by the internet.
Universal Music Group did the customary thing where they pull a few videos off the web and make it look like they’re legitimately trying to do some damage control, but in the end everybody knows the deal: Once an album leaks, it’s a done deal.
Thus far, the reviews for Nothing Was the Same are mostly positive. At this stage in the game everybody knows what to expect from Drake, and Drake knows what everyone expects. Nothing Was the Same follows in Take Care’s footsteps. You’ll never confuse Jimmy with Kendrick Lamar or J. Cole or any of the other preeminent young rappers in the game now lyrically, but just on the basis of making pleasant tunes, he’s as good as anyone in music today.
