David Blaine is ‘Electrified’

Illusionist David Blaine is at it again, and this time he’s got one million volts behind him.

David Blaine is in New York City, as we speak, wearing a metal chain suit, standing on a platform getting zapped by continual bursts of energy as he waits out his 72-hours. Yes, David is going to be there all weekend long. While the rest of us eat, sleep, watch college football and feed our hangovers, David will be there in Central Park getting ‘Electrified’.

‘Electrified’ is the latest stunt for the illusionist, who is best known for his endurance feats and levitations, and he is set to be shocked throughout the entire weekend. No sleep, no eat, no toilet time. David prepared himself for the big event by not eating (so he won’t have to poo) and will urinate via catheter.

Wearing a chain-mail metal suit that protects him, David Blaine is ‘Electrified‘ by constant voltage, but doesn’t actually get shocked. You see, the suit actually protects him for the most part. But we tweeted Blaine during his first night, and his brother (who is apparently handling his Twitter account) tweeted us back saying this:

David Blaine Electrified Stunt 2012

“Like being punched in the head.”

So yeah, it’s not so much the voltage, it’s the force of the energy. Besides that, the guy is standing for 72 hours. And did I mention he’s not eating or sleeping for that amount of time?! That in itself is something most of us couldn’t do, so don’t be an armchair quarterback while watching. It’s pretty intense and you have to give David Blaine props for being able to withstand such a long amount of time without anything except for that music and those bolts all around him. You can actually read more about the logistics behind ‘Electrified’ over at MSNBC. Pretty fascinating stuff.

Behind the scenes of David Blaine’s ‘Electrified’:

Sometimes Blaine looks uncomfortable, sometimes he is waving to fans and throwing up peace signs. Sometimes the voltage looks menacing, while other times it looks serene, as if to give him a break in the action.

‘Electrified’ viewing stations have been set up in London, Beijing, Tokyo and Sydney, where people can control the electrified coils. The show will continue all weekend long, so tune in at some point if you get the chance and see how David is doing. He began his ‘Electrified ‘journey at 4:30PM EST, so expect him to finish around that time on Monday. You can view it all live on YouTube until then.
