‘The Dark Knight Rises’ May Break ‘The Avengers’ Midnight Record

| by Michael Allen

'The Dark Knight Rises' may have already shattered a box office record. Deadline.com reports that the third Batman film by Christopher Nolan should pass Marvel’s 'The Avengers‘ $18.7 million as the largest midnight show of all time.

The online ticket seller Fandango.com says that 'The Dark Knight Rises' has 2,500 sold-out showtimes and this may be Fandango.com's top-selling Thursday in the company’s 12–year history. 'The Dark Knight Rises' currently represents 91% of Thursday’s ticket sales for Fandango.com.

'The Dark Knight Rises' will debut in 4,404 theaters from Friday through Sunday, including 332 IMAX locations.

In North America, 'The Dark Knight Rises' has already made $25 million in pre-sales. 'The Avengers' holds the domestic record for the largest opening weekend gross, but 'The Dark Knight Rises' may break that mark as well.
