Angelina Jolie recently revealed that she had a double mastectomy as a preventative measure when she found out she had tested positive for the BRCA1 gene.
The gene makes her chances of getting breast cancer 80%. She was prompted to get tested for the gene after her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of ovarian cancer in 2007 at the age of 56.
The gene also means she has a higher chance of getting ovarian cancer, but she said the first step to reducing her cancer risk was getting the mastectomy.
Her fiance, Brad Pitt, was there for her throughout the ordeal. He is calling her "heroic" for going through with it.

Pitt told the Standard, "Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie's choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic. I thank our medical team for their care and focus. All I want is for her to have a long and healthy life with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family."
Angelina finished the last part of the surgery on April 20 and has made a full recovery.
