During the 2014 Emmy Awards on Monday night, Billy Crystal paid tribute to his friend Robin Williams and reminisced on the time they spent together.
Crystal noted that he spent many happy hours with Williams, and recalled how Williams would impersonate Polish relatives at Crystal’s family reunions and remembered the comedian’s poor knowledge of baseball.
“As genius as he was on stage, he was the greatest friend you could ever imagine – supportive, protective, loving,” Crystal said. “For almost 40 years, he was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy.”
Crystal went on to say that it was difficult to discuss Williams in terms of the past because of his very present place in so many lives.
“Robin Williams,” Crystal said. “What a concept.”
Crystal’s dedication was followed by a video of some of Williams’ appearances on stage and in film.
