Sigel was pulled over after troopers observed his tan Ford Fusion swerving as he traveled down Interstate 95 in Philadelphia at around 3:15 a.m.
The rapper, whose real name is Dwight Grant, wasn’t the driver of the vehicle, but after searching the car police found $4,000 in cash, prescription pills in a plastic bag in a pack of cigarettes, marijuana, a bottle of codeine syrup with scratched-off label, and a gun.
The rapper and the driver, who was identified as Gerald Andrews, were taken into custody,
Both men are convicted felons and under Pennsylvania law, neither are permitted to own a gun.
Sigel was sentenced to two years in the slammer for failing to file tax returns for the years 2003, 2004, and 2005. He owes the IRS over $700k in back taxes.
Beanie’s record label, Ruffhouse Records, issued a statement, saying, “Obviously we’re very disappointed. However, Beanie has done nothing but display the utmost professionalism in all the initiatives related to promotion of his new release.
“Beanie has obviously been struggling with some personal issues, and we continue to support him now and throughout his impending incarceration.”
