Nominees for the 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony were announced today. Musical acts making the lists include:

· Guns 'N Roses
· Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
· Freddie King
· Laura Nyro
· Red Hot Chili Peppers
· Rufus with Chaka Khan
· The Small Faces/The Faces
· The Spinners
· Donna Summer
Guns 'N Roses, whose hits include "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child o' Mine" and "Paradise City," were nominated in their first year of eligibility. Guitarist Gilby Clarke said: "It's a great honor. The band deserves it. It was a long time coming."
Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a press release: "The 2012 nominees embody the broad scope of what 'rock and roll' means. From vocal groups to hip-hop, from singer-songwriters to hard-rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."
Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first recording. The nominees are chosen by a 35-member nominating committee including musicians, journalists and music executives. Ballots will be sent to more than 500 voters, including previous inductees.
The 2012 inductees are expected to be announced in late November or early December. Usually, five are chosen. While the ceremony is often held at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, this will be the third induction ceremony in Cleveland. In 2007, Rock Hall officials and city leaders announced an agreement to bring the event to Celveland every three years, starting with the 2009 ceremony,

The inductions are scheduled for April 14, 2012 at Cleveland's Public Auditorium. Tables and VIP packages for the ceremony are almost sold out; individual tickets will go on sale to the public in December 2011. There is more info at rockhall.com.
