Enough! Hawaii Looks to Stop "Birthers" Requests for Obama Birth Info

If you're a "birther" who refuses to believe President Obama was indeed born in the United States, you'd better get your request in for his birth certificate soon -- Hawaii may start ignoring you.

Even though state health officials have confirmed countless times that Obama was born in Hawaii, they still get around 20 emails every week seeking verification of his birth. And, quite frankly, some in Hawaii are tired of it.

So on Tuesday, a bill was introduced in Hawaii's House that would allow government officials to ignore people who won't give up.

"Sometimes we may be dealing with a cohort of people who believe lack of evidence is evidence of a conspiracy," said Lorrin Kim, chief of the Hawaii Department of Health's Office of Planning, Policy and Program Development.

A few of these people continue to pepper the Health Department with the same letters seeking the same information, even after they're told state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest. Responding wastes time and money, Kim said.

While no one in the House questions that Obama was born in Hawaii, some legislators think the law is a bad idea.

"Do we really want to be known internationally as the Legislature that blocked any inquiries into where President Obama was born?" asked Rep. Cynthia Thielen, a Republican. "When people want to get more information, the way to fuel that fire is to say, 'We're now going to draw down a veil of secrecy.'"

If the measure passed, the state Office of Information Practices could declare an individual a "vexatious requester" and restrict rights to government records for two years.

Birthers claim Obama was not born in the United States, and is thus ineligible to be President.

Ok, I believe that voting Obama in was the biggest mistake of the decade. I didn't vote for him the first time, and i sure as hell won't be voting for him the second time. But the whole debate over where he was born is really old. One of the requisites for the Presidency is that the person must have been born a US citizen and have lived in the US for the last 14 years. Technically, Obama meets that requirement regardless of where he was born. His mother is a US citizen which, by birthright, makes him a US citizen. Its literally elementary-level social studies . If thats such a big deal, then should we recognize George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe as our first 5 legal Presidents? After all, they were all born British.
