Japanese MMA was front in center this past NYE weekend with two huge promotions taking place on consecutive days.
First up was Sengoku, which on Dec. 30 offered MMA fans a full day of fights with 28 bouts being staged. But arguably the most press was afforded to Dream and K-1’s Dynamite!! 2010 which paled in terms of sheer size when compared to Sengoku but packed much more star attractions. Dynamite!! was filled to the brim with superstars in the sport of MMA.
Names like Overeem, Sakurai, Aoki, and Sakuraba all created an event that was not to be missed. Even if that meant waking up at 1 AM CST on Friday to catch the fights on HDNet. Still, despite the obvious sleep deprivation, Dynamite!! did not fail in delivering five hours of great action. While Dynamite!! lacked the relevancy of the previous days Sengoku, it none the less provided a more festive atmosphere. Of course, that’s what you get when you feature a fighter who is a little too heavy into cosplay.
Dynamite!! was a prime example of everything I like about Japanese MMA. It was vibrant, it was fun, and it was intense. Truthfully, what more could you ask for?
