Hopes are High as Duke Enters 2010-11 College Basketball Season

| by SportsbookGurus

With the 2010/2011 College Basketball season getting ready to heat up, NCAA Basketball sportsbooks have already displayed their odds on who they think will win it all this year. One of the most exciting times of the year in sports is always the month of March. March Madness is always hyped with brackets being filled out by college basketball fans in their hopes of picking the national champion.

In this year’s preseason poll, the Duke Blue Devils will begin the season as the No.1 team in the nation. Following the Blue Devils will be Michigan State, Kansas State, Ohio State and Pittsburgh to round out the top 5. But odds set by sportsbooks have their picks a little different.

Not only is Duke the No. 1 team in the nation heading into the season, oddmakers have them picked to win it all again this year as well. Despite returning just two starters from last year’s team, Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith, the Blue Devils go into this season probably with better odds to make a run that last year. They lost three starters, but there is not a drop off in their replacement. The front court looks a bit thin, but with freshman point guard Kyrie Irving coming in and the addition of transfer Seth Curry, the back court should make up for it. Duke has their odds set at 5/1 to win it all this year.

The Spartans will enter as the second best team according to sportsbooks with their odds set at 9/1. Michigan State has one of the best group of returnees judging by results on the court and pre-season all-American lists. Also, they brought in one of the best recruiting classes this year. Senior point guard Kalin Lucas returns after winning the Big Ten’s 2009 player of the year award. They also return Draymond Green and Durrell Summers who also have given pre-season all-American hype. It does seem that there is enough talent on this team to make a run at their third Final Four appearance.

Kentucky enters the season as the No.11 ranked team, but sportsbooks feel they have a good shot as well with odds set at 10/1. The Wildcats go into the season in the same situation they had a year ago looking for production from highly regarded freshmen to carry the load. With big man DeMarcus Cousins gone, Kentucky will have to wait to see if 6-foot-11 freshman Enes Kanter will be eligible. This will be huge as there is really no other obvious replacement. But based on their freshman’s impact in their three-game exhibition tour, Kentucky should be exciting this year. Freshman guard Brandon Knight has scored a team-high 75 points in these games.

These are the top 3 schools according to NCAA Basketball sportsbooks to win it all in 2010/2011. Preseason No. 3 Kansas State has their odds set at 12/1 while Ohio State and Pittsburgh have theirs set at 20/1.
