While it is apparent that we won’t truly see New York’s full return on investment in trading the kitchen sink for Carmelo Anthony until we see them form their version of a “Big Three” in the season(s) to come, his arrival in the franchise has at least paid some early dividends.
Last night’s win over Indiana where the Line of the Night c/o Carmelo Anthony (2.50) was the prelude to his game-winning jumper. Without Amar’e Stoudemire to lead the team, Melo took it upon himself to be the one to take care of bringing home the bacon via 34 points (6 threes), 5 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks.
Call me a believer. I’m now a fan. C0unt Derrick Rose (2.04) as one of the point guards I’ll be targeting in next season’s draft. He and Nels’ Bulls just keep on plowing through opponent after opponent. How can’t they? Especially with Rose blasting away with 39 points (3 threes, 13-17 from the field, 10-10 from the line), and 5 assists. Speaking of point guards, Stephen Curry (1.77) put up a monster effort in Golden State’s 103-104 loss to Sacramento. He did his best to lift the Warriors in spite of losing Monta Ellis due to a bad fall. Curry finished with 27 points (3 threes, 11-17 from the field), 6 rebounds, while dishing 8 assists. Ellis, on the other hand, was taken to hospital for tests.

Kobe Bryant (1.68) and his Lakers were out-gunned by the Thunder. His 31 points (9-10 from the line), 4 assists, and 3 steals were not enough to slow down Russell Westbrook (1.55) who led OKC with 26 points (3 threes, 7-7 from the line), 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals.
Here’s a worthy debating point, I traded Joakim Noah for Dorell Wright (1.53) in the GMTR Keeper league about two weeks before my astonishing (lucky) run all the way to second place. Admittedly, Wright played a big role as he furnished my team with the treys it craved for. Do YOU like the deal? Games where he delivers 19 points, 4 assists, and 6 steals kind of make it an easy call for me to make.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Why is Ryan Anderson (1.88) not owned in more than 34% of leagues?Oh yeah, the season’s almost over. Well “the lucky ones” who stuck by his up and down season were rewarded with his 28 points (4 threes, 6-6 from the line), and 10 rebound performance in the Magic’s loss to D-Rose and company.

Pick Up Lines: Speaking of marginal power forwards, Charlie Villanueva (1.30) came back from the fantasy basketball dead to serve up 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals (45% owned)
With Andrea Barnani missing yet another game, Ed Davis (0.86) showed up with 18 points (9-14 from the field), 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. He’s owned in like 23% of leagues and in spite of Toronto’s being tight in the power forward position, I like Davis a potential keeper for next season. I can imagine him making some strides in improving his value in 2011.
Talk about “SHUTDOWN!” Chris Paul (-0.47) was locked down by the Grizzlies and was held scoreless! This gave him one of our worst lines of the night with 0 points, 3 rebounds, 10 assists; 0-6 from the field. Grant Hill was a bit worse, but considering each player’s ADP, Paul and his fantasy owners were the obviously bigger losers last night.
