NHL: Red Wings Datsyuk Out with Broken Hand

The Detroit Red Wings picked up a nice 5-4 OT win on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks, but lost something far more important. Specifically, stud forward Pavel Datsyuk will miss about a month with a broken hand that he suffered in the first period.

Datsyuk fell over teammate Mikael Samuelsson and landed on the hand.

“He has a broken hand or wrist or something like that,” Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “He’ll out about four weeks. It’s unfortunate, but there’s nothing we can do about it. We have to dig in like we did tonight, and it’s an opportunity for somebody else.”

The good thing is that Babcock said that he wouldn’t need surgery and that wearing a cast for a while should fix everything.

“We know Pavel will be back,” Babcock said. “He’s just getting a little vacation and will be ready for the playoffs. It’s something that’s going to heal. It’s just going to take some time.”
