Rudy Giuliani Is Not Even Hiding His Racism Anymore

President Obama does not love America. So says the former mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani.

Giuliani made his assessment of Obama's love while speaking at a private event last week. He said, “I know this is a horrible thing to say...But I do not believe that the president loves America. He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.”

What a ridiculous statement. The fact that the President has spent nearly his whole post-collegiate life working in the public sector should be enough to prove his pratiotism to Giuliani and those who agree with his assessment. But it doesn't. The reason is obvious to me. Obama, and anyone who challenges the status quo while being a person of color, are always suspect as afar as patriotism goes. Let's not forget even Martin Luther King, Jr. was considered un-American and a communist by some.

For some reason as blacks we just are not seen as being as all-American as our white counterparts. Frankly I would argue blacks should be considered the most Patriotic for putting up with, and even fighting for, a country that for so many years treated them/us as second-class citizens. Fighting even in wars on foreign soil only to come home to segregation and discrimination. How is that for love of country?

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Giuliani's statement was called out by a lot of people who saw it for what it was: racism, plain and simple. In his attempt to defend himself, the former mayor made his bigotry and ignorance even more apparent. He actually said his opinion on Obama could not be based on racism because Obama does not qualify as black. Yeah, he said that. Here it is in his own twisted words:

"Some people thought it was racist — I thought that was a joke, since he was brought up by a white mother, a white grandfather, went to white schools, and most of this he learned from white people. This isn’t racism. This is socialism or possibly anti-colonialism.”

The statement is so ludicrous it is almost hard to even respond. But I will. Giuliani is flat out insulting our intelligence with that response. Surely he is aware that throughout his political career President Obama has been considered black whether he or anyone else preferred that singular label. Hardly anyone has referred to him as America's first mixed President. No, time and again, as Giuliani knows, Obama has been seen as a black President. Certainly all the racist vitriol he and his family have had to endure over the years, including calls questioning whether he was American at all and instead was African, prove he can be the victim of racism.

And besides, Giuliani knows that, unfortunately, in our still skin color-oriented society being part black defines you as black. Such is the power of the "one drop rule" that says even one drop of black blood makes you black. Ridiculous as that notion is, most still adhere to it.

So sorry Rudy, you don't get a pass on being racist because Obama's mother was white.  Questioning the President's love for his country just because he has a different opinion tells a lot of us more about you than the President. Too bad Giuliani and others with his worldview don't love America and all its people. That makes me question whether Giuliani is the one that doesn't really love what this country is, only what they wish it would be.
