Samuel Forrest, the father of a newborn boy with Down Syndrome whose wife allegedly forced him to choose between her and their son, said he's open to reconciliation if his wife met his one request: that she fully accept her boy and willingly take on her responsibilities as a mother.
Following Forrest's wife Ruzan Badalyan issuing a statement that addressed the allegations against her, the father spoke exclusively to Mirror Online, saying that he still loves his wife regardless of being given an ultimatum because she felt having a son with Down Syndrome would bring "shame" upon the family in their home country of Armenia.
"I don't hold anything against Ruzan," Forrest, a New Zealand native, said. "I wanted this personal responsibility and I've assumed it for Leo and she's also made her own decisions."
Badalyan claimed in a statement hat both parents mutually agreed that their son would be better off being raised in New Zealand. Forrest promptly denied the claim.

"None of that was discussed with me because the decision had already been made. The family or her wouldn't even enter into a dialogue with me on that particular thing," he said. "I had to make my decision because of this innocent little guy. He's beautiful, just beautiful.
"I gave her the opportunity that we could raise him together and I wouldn't leave and I think the proof is there, that I myself am now caring for him full time."
Forrest did acknowledge, however, that, as his estranged wife said in a statement, Armenia is a less than ideal country to raise a son with Down Syndrome. "I am fully sympathetic about the societal pressures and issues with the culture. There are many factors that come into play," he said.
"I haven't said anything bad about my wife," the new father said. "I adore her and I want to carry through those memories for Leo. I want him to know how good his mum was. I'll hold out the possibility in the future that there will be the possibility of a connection.

"The door will always be open," he continued. "For that to happen she will need to fully accept Leo and take on her responsibilities as a mother."
