College Football Conference Rankings: Week 5

| by Sports Nickel
Conference opponents have begun to face down one another by and large. For those conferences with a lot of Top 25 talent in their midst, this can be a boon as it keeps the percentage of quality games high. For non-AQ teams, that lack of respect often reflects on the lack of rankings and subsequent decrease in the percentage of quality contests.

That reflected this week as the calendar turned into October. The top two conferences in the land remain the same; neither the Pac-10 nor the SEC is a conference other teams want to play against right now. Trending upward, however, is the Big Ten. With the second-ranked team in the nation, the midwestern schools have seen this weekend help them following the cupcake-strewn mayhem that had them looking less impressive than the WAC or MWC at that point.

Speaking of which, the Big XII is also starting its own trajectory to battle toward the top. It’s still a longshot that the Big XII champion would play the BCS championship game after the way still-undefeated Oklahoma and Nebraska have both looked shaky at points already this year. The WAC and Mountain West continue to play strong, but other teams and leagues have seemed to roll over early as per usual.

So which conference is the best at this moment?
