Coco Crisp DUI is Bad News for MLB

| by

From the Doctor's Chair...

Recently, the Oakland A's confirmed a report that Coco Crisp was arrested and detained on suspicion of drunk driving in Arizona. This report comes just a short time after Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera was arrested for DUI in Florida in the infamous "take a swig while talking to the cops" fiasco.

Dr. Roto says: This is slowly turning into a potential problem for Major League Baseball. Players are down at spring training and after a few cuts in the batting cages (and a few innings playing in the sun), they go off to a round of golf and a 19th hole with their buddies. While it is not the teams' job to police their players, it sets a bad example for other players and fans alike.

One would think that the Donte Stallworth incident a short while ago would show athletes the perils of drinking and driving. As for the fantasy effect on your team? In most cases, practically nothing. However, if you see that players like Coco Crisp get off to a slow start in the spring, you should file that information away before your drafts. Although he may have all the talent in the world (when healthy), his priorities may not be in the right place.
